cat /dev/null > filename 파일을 삭제하지 않고, 파일 사이즈를 null로 채워서 비우는 동작을 한다. 특정 프로세스가 로그 파일에 계속 기록을 하고 있을 때, 파일 자체를 삭제해버리면 문제가 되므로, 파일을 삭제하지 않고 파일 내용만 비울때 주로 사용을 한다.
